Thalachery Goats:

Thalachery goats (Also called as Malabari, Thalassery, Talacherry, Thalacherry, Talacherri, Thalacherri, Tellicherry, Tellicherri, Tellicheri, Talacheri, Thalacheri) have the following advantages.

The breed derives its name from its native habitat of " Malabar "area of northern Kerala where they are densely populated.

They are excellent, prolific breeders and suitable for cross breeding with Jamunapari or Boer buck. They have a higher feed conversion ratio than most of the local breeds and their skin is extremely suited for leather industry. One main reason for their popularity among goat farmers, is their ability to produce twins or triplets consistently.They are one of the sturdy breeds available in India, and suited for most agro-climatic zones. These goats also have good mothering instincts and produce large quantities of milk to support their kids.

 

Birth weight is around 2.3 kg and Average body weight in one year on pasture grazing:

  • For Male : 28 kgs
  • For Female: 24 kgs

Thalachery Goats when crossed with Boer Bucks yields 50 % Boer kids.

Average weight of 50 % Boer kids in one year will be

  • For Male: 40 kgs or more
  • For Female: 30 kgs or more

      That depends on the average weight. In our farm and most other farms, if the kid is under 15kg body weight, the price is calculated for 15kg. It doesn’t matter, if the kid weighs 10 or 15kg, it will be the same price.We are pricing @ Rs.320/Kg. So, a 15Kg kid will cost you Rs.4800.
      It’s most often advised to get a adult female goat after first kidding rather than an kid, since, you can expect a kidding in 5 months. If you choose, young kids of 3 months, it will take at least another 6-9 months for them to mature and start breeding.
